Today is for you Blue ....  and your siblings Misty, TaiTai, and Goldie.

We're glad you've become happy residents of the Life Center.  When your hooman dad passed away, we promised him we'd do everything we could to care for you and to make you happy.  We're happy to have you as part of our family, and so happy that you have overcome your grief and now welcome visitors and have lots of friends.

Freezing drizzle or not .....  everyone wants breakfast and a clean bed.  And that's what they get at Rikki's.  The show goes on .....  no matter what .....  animal caretaking cannot stop for a day just cus the hoomans is miserable out there !!!!

Most of the animals will hang out somewhere warm, sleeping most of the day .....    except the birds who'll love it as the freezing drizzle changes to wonderful not quite freezing rain !!!

I had to head off early to the big city ... big day .... everybody's paws were crossed that it'd all goes well .... pleaz .... been working for a year and a half to get this done !!!!!    It was real careful starting that drive .....  the goat cart was a slippin and a slidin and them goats were protesting !!!!  Had to give them extra carrots and apples before they'd agree to pull the cart to town.

Do I get any extra Fancy Feast for going ???   I don't think so ....  you know I'd rather stayed home curled up in my nice warm bed eating Fancy Feast ....  but Iz the spokes cat and I know I have to do my job .....   sigh .....

Twitter here had the right idea on a day like this

Poppy the goose who thought he was a cat

is now the leader of the goose pack !!!

Yup, you read that right, when Poppy came to Rikki's he'd never seen another goose in his life.  He was terrified of them.  He wanted to come in the 9th Life Center at night and sleep in a cat bed.

At first some of the cats freaked out ....  what on earth was this giant feathered thing doing amongst them in one of their beds.  But before long Poppy became one of the cats, often sharing a bed with a cat or two.

He'd go out in the day time, but run and hiss when the geese came by to check him out.  Eventually he got curious.  He'd trail the geese at a distance.  You could see when he first realized they spoke the same language ....  they'd honk .... he'd honk ....   but when someone came over for a closer inspection he'd hiss and run back to the deck outside the 9th Life Center  !!!

Eventually he decided he had more in common with geese than with cats.  And he began to stay outside more and more.  Sleeping on the deck 20 or 30 feet from the herd.  Gradually he got closer.

Eventually, after many long months, he was accepted as a goose.  He even demonstrated how he'd chase people and other critters away from his goose pack.   He's certainly one of the group, though no girl goose has ever chosen him.  And he's never seemed to much mind.

He's the clear leader of the gang now ....  and heads out to pick the right puddle for the gang to join him in.

It had warmed up to the mid 30's by late afternoon when I pulled in with the goat cart.  It had been a very successful day in the big city  !!!!!   That finishes off a big job I'd worked on as Chief Spokes Cat for 18 months ..... so many bumps in that long road ....  All is done ... every thing signed, sealed and delivered .... Thank you Mr Ford and thank you Cindy, David, Nora, Melissa, Mariza, Angela and mom for joining me at the all you can eat Indian and Fancy Feast buffet at Taj (ohh .... nummy nummy nummy you gotta check 'em out http://www.tajva.com/) to celebrate !!!!

Love, Opie

thank you for making it all possible !
