Good Morning Good News !!!! August 29, 2010

Good Morning Good News !!!!

Stop in for party at 3 this afternoon if you can! Two celebrations!
Thank you Teens and
Thank you Voters!!!

Looks like another lovely day today !!!! What great weather we're
having huh?

WOO HOO! Walker is sooo happy he sends Dog Haiku --

I lie belly-up
In the sunshine, happier than
You ever will be

Today I sniffed
Many dog butts-I celebrate
By kissing your face.

I am your best friend,
Now, always, and especially
When you are eating.

Mark your calendar for the September 6th noon Labor Day Tour. Just one
tour and it takes off at noon - be there !!! Gates open at 11:30 am!!!

Katarina and volunteers hiked the woods yesterday and checked out the
log cabin and have plans for the Haunted Woods Trail at the Fall Furr
Festival !!!!! Put October 23rd noon - 5 pm on your calendar!

Two new sheep have joined our crowd. Ebony and Ivory. Owned by an
elderly couple no longer able to care for their animals due to health
reasons. Their chickens will be joining us soon. They have a dog they
have been facing having to give up too. They can't afford to feed her.
She's a big gal and unspayed. They've managed to keep her from having
puppies so far but it's a struggle as she tries to get away from them
when she's in heat. Restraining her is becoming more than they can do.
Our assistance program will give them a certificate to spay her and
get her shots, and our Pet Pantry will give them dog food. If you'd
like to help us help the animals and the people who love them, this is
the place to do it!

I need some more volunteers to help at events and festivals. It's easy,
clean, and some are climate controlled, all kinds of locations. Do
your opposable thumbs work? Can you smile? That's all that's needed!
Hang out at a table with our display and hand out flyers. If you can
help let me know, I'll let you know when and where events are and you
can pick!!

Have a wonderful Sunday !!!!

Cats Rule !!!!!

Good Morning Good News !!!! August 28, 2010

Good Morning Good News !!!!

Good Morning!! It IS Thursday morning? Right? Hmm is time flying again!!!

Everything is GOOD here, busy, but business as usual. No problems, just
lots to do. Thanks to all of you calling and writing to ask if I'm ok
since I've been out of touch for a couple days. Nothing but busy my
friends!!!

PARTY TIME - WE'RE HAVING A CELEBRATION !!!!
SUNDAY TOMORROW (sorry for short notice, been too busy to get my paws on
the keys) 8/29 3 pm
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4751216459/

It's a two for one celebration !!!!

First for our THANK YOU TEENS C.A.R.E PARTY
Katrina ran the Teens C.A.R.E. program all summer long. Every Thursday
they'd gather here at Rikki's at 8 o'clock in the morning and they'd
work like dogz (not laze in the sun like us smart cats!) all day long,
all the way till 5 o'clock. And YOU know how hot it was all summer
long! This is DEDICATION to the animals - like ME!!!

It was hot and their work was hard and tiring. Not to mention dirty and
smelly. They zipped thru litterboxes - about 60 of them. Pooper
scooped dog runs. Mucked pens. Scrubbed and mopped floors. Cleaned
cages. And best of all fed us!!

It was a terrific program and really helped Lena and the staff out a LOT
this summer. SO MUCH extra work was done over the summer with this
program - we'd like to let the kids know how much they meant to us.

Every animal area here will have a way for the animals to say thank you
with decorations and an activity for them to participate in. Great
games like Who can Feed Vincent the Most Fancy Feast!!!

These teenagers are seriously fantastic people who have done so much for
us and will continue to do great things if we all encourage and support
them. We've also invited their parents and any siblings who want to come
to see what they have been doing all summer.

And Secondly we're adding the Victory Voting for Vincent Party !!!
Congratulations to all of YOU who voted !!!! YOU who made this
possible. So PLEASE come out. And please play Who can Feed Vincent the
Most Fancy Feast!!!

So everybody is invited !!! Come and say Congratulations to all the
wonderful Teens and Voters!!!

Love,
Vincent

Good Morning Good News !!!! August 25, 2010

Good Morning Good News !!!!

And the Good News is ..... I haven't turned totally blue yet!! Still
waiting for the announcement. Had an email this am saying,
"Congratulations to all winners ..." but not saying who they are or
exactly when it will be posted. SO .......

Is it like August? Like summer's not over yet? Like it's not even
Labor Day let alone Thanksgiving? Or have I gone thru a time warp? I
knew I took a long cat nap, but was it THAT long? Mommey and me had to
go get some stuff and the Dollar Tree is selling - sit down - I mean
like the temperature did drop yesterday - and we needed bankies last
night - but - the leaves are still green - CHRISTMAS STUFF !!!
Ahhhhhhhh Even us cats know this is crazy!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/2696306075

We've got a new "resident" at Rikki's. The traps are going out!! When
we drove up after our trip to Dollar Tree, still in shock, Mommey said,
"What's that on TOP of rabbit rotunda? Did an orange chicken go up
there to sleep? " Then we got closer and Mommey said, "Holly Cow - it's
a CAT!". Not only rabbits live in there but guinea pigs, pigeons and
some other birds. A veritable buffet for a cat.

She wanted me to zoom fast down the driveway, but when ever I'm driving
I'm very careful of my brofurs and sisfurs and sure enough all the
dawgies came out to greet us.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4925114484/ (for you unbelievers)

When I parked, Mommmey jumped out of the truck and ran to the well
house and turned on the east system. Then she ran to Rabbit Rotunda and
hooked up the hose and ran it into the rotunda, right to the center,
tippy top, 14 feet up, right where this great big orange tom cat (she
know's cuz she saw golf balls under that tail) was leaning down and
talking to the pigeons and trying to convince them to come up higher,
higher, here little birdy, and trying fit his paws thru the mesh,
pushing and scratching, oh he so wanted to reach those birds. She got
right underneath him and he looked at her and smirked! Yes he did, I
saw it too. And she turned the sprayer on full blast and shot him in
the belly with a stream of water.

She knew it was gonna be good and really wanted to go get the camera and
video it - but she wanted to get him off of there as quick as possible
just in case he'd damaged the roof and was going to figure out how to
get in. She figured saving the residents of Rabbit Rotunda was a
better idea than getting a good video.

He leapt straight up in the air about three feet and then boinged down
on the roof. It's netting stretched out and like a trampoline up there!
He tried to run but couldn't get traction and he boinged again. Kept
boinging and losing about 3 feet of altitude each time. Till he reached
the edge and leapt to the ground. Mommey still had the hose trained
right on him. He was one mad kitty! As he reached the tool trailer and
out of reach of the hose he turned around and hissed Mommey. I'm not
going to translate cuz she'd get mad.

The traps are out and he's gonna have to take a trip to the speuter clinic.

From Crystal Wood: In 1995, Hurricane Marilyn devastated the US Virgin
Islands and Puerto Rico. A man named Dave lived with his cat on a small
boat in the harbor near Red Hook on St. Thomas. Back in those days, they
didn't have the sophisticated weather tracking equipment they do now, so
they knew a hurricane was coming, they just didn't know how bad it was
going to be. By the time it got to the USVI, it was a strong Category 3.

Dave knew he would have to abandon ship and get to a shelter on land
before the worst of the storm hit, but he was afraid that if he put the
cat in a carrier and tried to cross the harborfrom the boat in his
dinghy, they might capsize and the cat would drown in its carrier before
he could save it. So he DUCT TAPED the cat to his bare chest and swam on
his back the 100 or so yards from the boat to the dock in violent wind,
rain, and pounding waves. He determined that he and the cat would make
it out alive or they would go down together. He lost the boat and nearly
everything else he owned, but they made it out alive and the cat lived
to a ripe old age.

I met Dave at the Latitude 18 bar in Red Hook and he showed me the scars
the poor terrified cat inflicted on him. His eyes misted up a little as
he told the story. "That was the best cat I ever had," he said fondly

Now that's what we call a cat lover, not a cat liker!!!

Lifeguard dogs in Italy help swimmers in need
In the United States, lifeguards are required to save swimmers who are
in need of help, but in Italy, our four-legged friends are putting their
best paw forward as well. According to the Associated Press, "lifedogs"
have become a vital component to saving swimmers on the many beaches
located in the boot-shaped country. The pups are relied on because of
their ability to jump easily from helicopters and into the water.

"The dog becomes a sort of intelligent lifebuoy. It is a buoy that goes
by itself to a person in need of help, and comes back to the shore also
by himself, choosing the best landing point and swimming through the
safest currents," Roberto Gasbarri, who coordinates the Italian School
of Canine Lifeguards, told the news source. Gasbarri said he will train
any breed, as long as they weigh more than 66 pounds. However, Labrador
retrievers, Golden retrievers and Newfoundlands are the pups most
commonly sought, because of their swimming instincts.

Good Morning Good News !!!! August 24, 2010

Good Morning Good News !!!!

The best news is how many friends turned out to vote for Rikki's in the
shelter challenge.

The better news is, at one minute to cut off time it was showing Rikki's
in the lead by slightly over 1%. The official winner will be announced
Wednesday 8/25.

The bestest news is I haven't turned totally blue yet from holding my
breath!!!

You'll be the first to know when I know anything!!!

In the mean time - relax and take time to smell the flowers

Rikki's will be at the National Capital Cat Show in Chantilly, Virginia

smooch me.

We have several events going on this weekend and our volunteers are
spread thin. PLEASE I NEED HELP here, if you can come for a few hours
either Saturday or Sunday - or if you're fabulous and can do all day
both days -- Please contact Catnip Candy paulcandy214@verizon.net so
she can set the schedule. We need 6 volunteers hoomaning our booth at
all times. Easy duties, no rain, no sun, no poop - just hand out flyers
and take money!

Dee0849@cox.net Petunia and friends thank you!

Do you believe in dreams? Rene does and this is what she sent me Monday
morning: I had a vivid dream last night that woke me at 3:30 am. Vincent
was waiving two small flags in his front paws, while fireworks went off
behind him and confetti poured from the sky. This image to me says we won!

From my sisfur who got adopted on Saturday: Hi Vincent! This is your
friend Polly!! I have discovered the joy of sleeping on my new Mom's
bed and cuddling up with her for a nap. I have even met your friend Gato
Noir..I let him sniff me but then I hiss him away to show him who's
boss. I might be nice to him someday, though. I am sooo happy I have
some Cat Haiku to send you for your good morning reports:

CAT HAIKU

You never feed me.
Perhaps I'll sleep on your face.
That will show you.

You're always typing.
Well, let's see you ignore my

then want to come help us out!!! It's so important to me!

I have some really good news. My sisfur Polly went home to her new
forever home with hooman Cindy Wright and dog-brofur Walker. Also
joining her in her new home is brofur Gatto Noir and Trailer Park Kitty,
both alumni of Rikki's. AND she's got other brofurs and sisfurs too!!
I think Polly will be very happy.

Do you remember Polly? She was the little girl that lost her tail and
needed so much care to get it all healed up and fur growing back on her
stump. Now she's a happy every after story!

After getting Polly safely home last night Cindy sent me this quote.

You can never do a kindness too soon; for you never know how soon it
will be too late.

Program benefits both youth and animals
http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/ars/article/Program-benefits-both-youth-and-animals588
A rehabilitation program in Oregon has benefited individuals who are
finishing their time with the Oregon Youth Authority and a local animal
rescue organization. The young men are housed at a facility for
juvenile offenders and are completing their sentence. They learn life
skills that help them transition back into society, and part of that is
doing community service and providing care for the animals at the
shelter. "After the first day [at the shelter], when they come back,
you see a different young man," superintendent of the juvenile facility
Brian Blisard told the new source. "Their humane side comes out."
The boys help animals that have been through all kinds of
situations. They take them on walks, feed them and spend time playing
and encouraging them to be social. Shelter workers have seen vast
improvements of many of the dogs that come to them terrified of humans,
and they credit the young men with helping socialize the canines.

YUP we think programs like that are great! Some hoomans just haven't
experienced the kind of love we can give and when they help us, we're
really helping them. Every hooman we can touch, makes a kinder more
gentle soul, who will carry a little bit of that out to the world.

I love our youth programs at Rikki's!!

Walker says the answer to yesterday's trivia is "#2 on the list of
animals smarter than Hoomans is DOLPHINS!!! Although he thinks dogs
should be #1 and cats #2... "

Well Walker, you and me got something to talk about, see you in a bit!

Here's the answer some hooman pannel made up:
2. Ants - Despite their size, the world's many varieties of ants have
amazing skills. One of the most impressive is the mycocepurus smithii
from the Amazon, a super feminist species that has developed the ability
to reproduce via cloning — dispensing with both sex and males — to
evolve into an all-female breed.
According to research from the University of Arizona, it's not
clear when the change happened, but by reproducing without sex, the ants
avoid the energetic cost of producing males and double the number of
reproductive females produced each generation.
Unlike us humans, ants have also learned super efficient ways to
organize their traffic. And 2006 research by the Berkeley University of
California has established that the trap-jaw ant (odontomachus bauri)
can close its mandibles at an incredible speed: The strike lasts 0.13
milliseconds, 2,300 times faster than the blink of an eye. This allows
them to jump enormous heights for their size.

Guess who they think #3 is?

Be my HERO and VOTE!

Love,
Vincent

It's by a British organization called EVOLVE! - Embracing the Vision Of
Liberation for the Voiceless and Exploited. I started searching for it
on youtube cuz I know you can see those. I didn't find it. I did find
out about them. They're an awesome group of people who care deeply
about animals. I've asked them if there's a link on the web. Let me
know if you can still see this if you don't have a facebook account.
It's very heartwarming!

Fastest koala in the west
Koalas are famously chilled, laid-back creatures who don't like a lot of
excitement. So imagine the shock this little critter suffered after it
was hit by a car in Australia and got stuck in the front grille. The
vehicle struck the fully grown male koala near Narrawong in Victoria's
south west after leaving the town of Portland, west of Melbourne. The
driver, who was traveling at about 50mph, hit the brakes after striking
the animal with his Ford Falcon on the Princes Highway.

Assuming the animal was dead, he was stunned to find the koala very much
alive and wedged in the car's front grille. The shocked marsupial was
trapped just under the license plate with its front paws and head
hanging out the front of the vehicle. The driver phoned Portland's
after-hours veterinary service before driving nine cautious miles at low
speed back into town.

Local veterinarian Lisia Sturm was astounded to find the animal had
survived without a scratch. 'It looked quite surprised - if koalas can
look surprised, it had its bum wedged right in there meaning it couldn't
get out. But he was a big boy and looked really healthy. He didn't have
any injuries at all not even a graze.'

The koala was cut from the grille with bolt cutters. It was kept under
observation for the rest of the day before being released back into its
prior habitat later that afternoon. Dr Sturm said the koala's amazing
escape showed it was important for drivers to stop and examine an animal
following an accident before seeking veterinarian treatment.

Attached is a file I just created and I will walk around to get people
to vote and hand them one of these slips of paper with the link on it
and they can take it home and vote on their home computers also. Attach
it (it is) to Vincent's reminder email tomorrow and ask people to print it
and cut the page up and give them out to others to vote at home on
Friday-Sunday.

Seven Animals Smarter Than Hoomans (after cats, of course)
1. Homing Pigeons - While most humans need several types of maps and a
compass to find their way home after a long journey, the homing pigeon
can return from extremely long distances (more than 1,100 miles) without
any guidance.

Well, as a matter of fact, they do have some help: According to research
by the University of Frankfurt, these pigeons have iron-containing
structures in their beaks, which help them sense the Earth's magnetic
field independent of their motion and posture, and thus identify their
geographical position.

Research results released this year indicate this magnetic charm is
present in other birds as well.

Can you guess who animal #2 on this list is??? Go on guess.
Vincent@RikkisRefuge.org Can you get it right before I tell you tomorrow?

Have a wonderfully spectacular Friday!

Peace, love and happiness to you,

Good Morning Good News !!!! August 19, 2010

Good Morning Good News !!!!

I really need your help now!!
Four days to go!! Vote Vote Vote
http://bit.ly/bDLKJY and then enter this
Rikkis Refuge, Orange, VA, USA (remember leave out the apostrophe in
Rikki's)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4742787593/
We're all begging for your votes for the next four days!!!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4743424218/

I think we can .... I think we can .... I think we can .... I think we
can ....
And remember believing in yourself is half the battle!!!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4906998281/

I have friends all over the world. Lots right here in the United
States. And friends in Canada and Mexico and Guatemala and Peru and
Venezuela and Norway and Denmark and Holland and Sweden and England and
Scotland and Wales and Germany and Spain and Italy and Greece and Turkey
and Pakistan and India and Thailand and Hong Kong and Japan and
Indonesia and Australia and New Zealand.

Lots of them I met on Facebook. And they've been voting. And we've
been in number one for many many weeks. And now when we're down to only
days to go. I get overtaken! My friends are all still voting and it's
neck and neck.

We're all different, but we band together.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4906997951/
We may have different ideas but we have one common goal - to give all
critters the right to life! And Rikki's Refuge winning this contest
will help do just that!!!

It really seems fair Rikki's Refuge should win as number one in
Virginia. We're the biggest in the state. We take care of the most
animals. 1259 have a bed with us each and every night. 23 species. My
dedicated hoomans feed us and give us medical care and love, so much
love. We don't have to live in cages. This is home for life, our very
own natural life, for ever and ever. And I bet Rikki's does all this on
one of the smallest budgets in the whole state of Virginia too!

At Rikki's we love everybody and everybody gets along and loves one
another - no matter what.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4907588892/

But I guess some hoomans just have to win. All the time. I just hope
the other contenders (that's a big word for a cat, huh?) are playing
fair like us cats and dogs do. But sometimes I worry about them
hoomans. Lots of my votes come from my facebook friends everywhere.
They're in different time zones and they can vote around the clock. And
their voting is visible for the world to see.

And now it looks like somebody has complained about me and facebook says
I'm not allowed to talk much for several day, till the contest is over.
But now I won't be allowed to post VOTE FOR ME but once a day, so my
friends in different time zones will miss the reminder. And I'm not
even allowed to comment and talk to a lot of my friends. Even answer
their notes. They'll think I don't like them anymore. Boooo. This
makes me sad. It's like I'm grounded for something I didn't do.

Why can't we just get along and play together nice?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4907588986/

I was playing fair and square. I have a lot of friends cuz YOU love how
we save so many animals. But somebody out there seems to think if they
can't have more friends they'll just quash us and try to take ours away.

My bro Fang (his name is Fang cus that one fang is all the teeth he's
got) spent most of his life on the streets fighting to survive and he's
so happy to have a comfy home with lots of food for his retirement years
and this is what he thinks of anybody trying to quash Rikki's and
jeopardize his chance at a happy home
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4907589012/

Oh well, when it's all over I may not win this challenge, but I know I'm
the real winner cuz I have the bestest friends in the whole wide world YOU!

If you've got any way to help step up our voting and show everybody that
good and kindness and love will prevail - PLEASE HELP.

Ask everybody on the bus or the subway or your carpool this morning to
vote - it's only four days, just four times!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4687323351/

Don't let anybody go out to lunch today without voting first!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4690585168/

Pass by an internet cafe on the way home from work? Stop in and ask
everybody to vote.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4708775519/

Everybody can vote - there's no discrimination here!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/469107192/

Don't have the little link handy? http://bit.ly/bDLKJY Then just go to
www.RikkisRefuge.org and click on the $100,000 and you can enter just
Rikkis Refuge (remember no ' ) and VA and with just that it can find us!
So easy. Make sure all your friends know to search, vote and then
identify the animal.

Together all you good, kind, loving and caring people and cats and dogs
and everybody - WE CAN WIN !!!!!

I have just one thing to say to them who got my facebook blocked right
at such a strategic time:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4907588876/

I hate to be so fixated on your hooman money. But it IS what keeps us
alive. The medical bills, the medicines, the flea prevention, the food,
the electricity and on and on. Money is the root of what makes it all
go round! Check out this video my friend did! He's helping to spread
the word about voting too!

My friend Sharon writes in, I have a devious mind, much like a feline,
and I can't see how a Cocker Spaniel group could be so large that they
beat Rikki's every time. Something is very fishy in Denmark and it is
not the kind of fish you would want to eat. How many people even know
what a Cocker Spaniel is? Or are they the almighty world wide Cocker
Spaniel savers with divisions in every country in the world? I think
they have everyone in their offices voting for them and as a last ditch
effort, why not encourage everybody who works in an office to get the
cubicle gophers to vote for Rikki's? I mean, all office workers
participate in football pools on company time, why not vote for a good
cause on the good old coffee break?

I've already emailed all my retired friends and they are helping, but if
I was back at an office, I bet I could have had 10 or 20 people voting
everyday. YOU CAN'T LOSE THIS ONE! Those Cocker Spaniel people are
up to something and must be denied victory at any cost. Tomorrow I am
going to the library and vote from every one of their computers in
addition to my home. Its the only way I can figure out how to vote
more. Maybe it will work. I do have a multiple-split personality,
again a most feline trait, and can be any number of different people in
a single day. If it works in my library, I intend to vote at every
computer terminal at every library that accepts my card.

Hero Dog Runs for Help When Owner Collapses
Her legs may only be a few inches long, but Missy the dachshund proved
that she can run like the wind -- when she has to.

Her owner Charlie Burdon, who had recently had heart surgery, collapsed
inside his Oregon home last week. Missy, who was in the yard,
immediately sensed something was awry, ABC2 news in Baltimore, Md. reports.

Normally, the 11-year-old dachshund never leaves her yard unless Burdon
is with her. But this time, she sprinted across the street to the home
of neighbor Charles Mitchell, who was working outside.

Mitchell told Missy to head home, but the loyal pooch refused to budge.
Finally, he began following the little dog. "Missy was right in front of
me, letting me know something was wrong inside that house," Mitchell
told the Associated Press. When he arrived, he found Burdon and quickly
called the paramedics.

It turned out that Burdon had been overcome by a severe case of vertigo.
He's now doing fine -- thanks to Missy. "It's remarkable that you can
put your trust into your dog" says Burdon. More evidence that good
things come in small packages.

Have a wonderful day - see you tomorrow - stay with the happy dance all
day, keep smiling, you're my HERO!!

I love you,
Vincent

THIS LITTLE PIGGY WENT HOME !!!!!
Bella's piggys are growing and the nursery is now just too small. It's
time to move back to Bella's digs at Piggy Paradise. There doesn't seem
to be much cooperation here. Last time the little boys went out they
were neutered ..... Now they don't believe it's only a trip to their
new bigger digs! http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901007255/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlKQzJng91c

One by one the babies go. SCREAMING all the way. A baby pigs only
defense is to scream until mommey comes and chases off the predator.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901007175/

They say if you get a baby pig and pick it up every day - in a year
you'll be very strong. And very deaf from all that high pitched screaming.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901007117/

No matter how hard Lena and James worked to convince Bella to come along
cooperatively she stood her ground and said, "Hell no I won't go!" So
the hoomans had to use their ingenuity.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901007083/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpzLDOnQybg

Oh look!!! Grass and bugs and num num num !!!! Lots of room to run and
play in here!!!!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901007021/

And here comes Mama Bella, squealing and grunting her protests!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901594798/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CHRFwIrEG8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpCRZE9ptMA

Petunia ran over to see what the squealing was all about and was so
happy to see her friend Bella! They exchanged notes on everything that
had been happening down at Piggy Paradise while Bella was away!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901594734/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPGxjJsdRbc

Just look at that smile on Petunia's face as Bella introduces her to the
kids. Can you honestly, for even one second, say pigs have no emotions?
Can you look into those eyes and see that smile and ever ever imagine
eating somebody like Petunia or Bella - even if you do call them bacon
or ham or chops or .....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901594624/

Oh Mommey Mommey, we love our new home!!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901594540/

Bella was glad the good old scratching stump was still there. And she
taught the little ones how to give it a good scratching!

And the Goodest New of all that day?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4901594076/
Was seeing my brofur Angus reunited with his hooman Molly!! We all
cried!! Angus came three years ago when Molly who'd had him for years
could no longer care for him. Her life was in a bad way and she had no
where to turn. Nobody wanted Angus cus he had medical problems that
Molly had spent thousands and thousands of dollars on. Everybody said -
kill him off. She said NO. And so she found Rikki's and we welcomed
Angus into the 9th Life Center. Our wonderful docs helps us to get
Angus all fixed up and over the problems he'd had. And eventually he
became a round around kitty. He made lots of friends and was very happy
and healthy. But at night sometimes he'd talk about missing Molly. And
now she's worked hard and her life is going good and she came to visit
Angus! And better still, he was able to go home with her! I'm gonna
miss my brofur but what better story than to be reunited with the one
who's loved you all your life!

SO NOW YOU KNOW EVERYTHING EXCITING I'VE BEEN UP TO!
Tell me what you've been doing! I love hearing from my HEROES, You can
write me any time Vincent@RikkisRefuge.org
Next tour is September 6th, Labor Day at noon - if you missed the Open
House, please come then. It's only one tour so you better be on time or
them hoomans will leave you behind!!! You'll get to kiss me before the
tour AND after the tour. Admission is two cans of cat food per person!
But it's ok if you're a really nice person and want to bring more!

FELINE FEEDING FRENZY!
Every day - twice a day - there's a Feline Feeding Frenzy at Rikki's
Refuge! With 659 kitties to feed it takes a lot of food! Thankfully we
were just given a whole truck full of dry food.

Many of our kitties are Special Needs Kids and many of those need canned
food to survive.

I've been offered a special deal to get ONE TON of canned cat food for
only $1,545.54. That's 2,000 pounds and that's ALMOST a month's of
canned food for the kitties!

Please toss a few bucks into the pot. We'll do the hard work. Loading
the truck. Unloading the truck. Opening the cans. Scraping out the
contents. Washing the dishes. And even scooping the litter box ......
Hey! I think you've got the easy end of this bargain!

http://rikkisrefuge.chipin.com/feline-feeding-frenzy

And if we collect more money than we need for canned kitty food, I'll
let mom use it to feed the other 22 species!!!!

Be sure to put a skip in your step and do the happy dance.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikkis_refuge/4885551440/ When hoomans ask
you what you're doing. Tell em thinking about the animals whose lives
Vincent will save when he wins $10,000 and then tell them to vote too!!!

See you next week, my HEROES!!!

Love,
Vincent

Good Morning Good News August 17, 2010

Good Morning Good News !!!!

Did you vote yet this morning ? If not hurry hurry, we're falling
behind and I need your help
http://bit.ly/bDLKJY Rikkis Refuge, Orange, VA, USA
What animal did you get?

I'm a dog today. Uh Oh I think I'm gonna be in the dog house if I lose

Great Big Good News mommey got a call yesterday - we have a pallet of
kitty food for you BUT you have to pick it up before 6pm or you can't
have it !!! Uh Oh the pick up place was almost 3 hours away and it was
1:30, and mommey would have to go thru the DC traffic too to get there!
Could she make it? And mommey had work she'd promised to do. And she
needed to take care of us. Most important she had evening insulin to
give to my diabetic brofurs. Now that schedule just can't be change.
You can't just randomly pick and chose what time to do that. 6 am and 6
pm no matter what. But if mommey left at 1:30 pm on a 3 hour trip and
she had to load the truck and them come home for 3 more hours - uh oh -
it'd be way too late for insulin. And Spotty and Buster and Mr. Wong
and Big Red would be in big trouble. No matter how bad we needed the
food mommey couldn't let them get sick. She frantically called and
e-mail volunteers. Nobody she could reach could do it. They couldn't
get off work in time. Poor Candy hurt her back and had a doctor's
appointment. Mommey was frantic - she knows how desperately we need the
food. Nanny said we could go in the goat cart but it would take us 74
days to get there. In summer time lots of hoomans go on vacation and
they have to spend their money so they can't give us the donations they
usually do. So the bank won't give mommey enough money to go buy a
truck full of cat food. So here, somebody giving it away, mommey had to
get it. And it had to be out of their place by 6 pm or that was it.
Not gone by 6 pm = No food. Valerie said she'd stay late at work and
give the insulin shots. Mommey jumped up and down and kissed her. And
then ran to her office and printed the directions, kissed me on the
head, LOCKED ME OUT OF THE OFFICE and then took off. You should tell
her that she should leave me with the puter when she goes out so I can
write to my friends!!

I'm so glad mommey came home all safe and sound with a whole truck full
of dry kitty food !!! Num Num Num. We're all happy now!!! And they
tossed in a few cases of canned doggy food too. Sorry rabbits and
piggies, You'll have to wait for Candy or Jane or Philip or Laura's truck!

More Good News! The open house was wonderful. It rained a tiny little
bit at first and then it was nice and no rain and not too hot. I gave
kisses for five hours straight. Oh happy dance, I LOVE giving kisses.

became a round around kitty.

You all keep voting now, OK?

I love you,
Vincent

PS If you don't want your Daily Good New, just let me know! A couple of
you have said you only want Hairballs with out the Good News!! That's
ok! Just tell me. I'm here to make you happy, just tell me how! If
Good New don't make you happy - I could always start Bad News, but, as
you hoomans say, why reinvent the wheel - that's what you've got tv and
newspapers for !!!!!
