Craig's List this morning
American Alligator 2- 2 1/2 foot long. May come with 85 gallon aquarium,
but preferably needs a larger holding device. He was previously in a 500
gallon pond that was more suitable. Serious inquiries only please, and
not all are eligible. You must have experience with related animals to
be considered. ---- anybody up to building the moat this week?

Or more seriously - have any idea where a good home would be?

Jan is Rikki's Hero of the day !!!!

Big BOO BOO I forgot to include Laurie for helping with the Richmond
Vegetarian Festival on Saturday. She came out yesterday to bring the
donations from the event.

Katarina worked all day. And if you've done heavy labor in that kind of
heat all day long non stop - you know how hard she worked. She had
several volunteers out helping too.

Dovi and Kayli came out to help and though Kayli is on the younger side
of our youths she was wonderful !!!!! And thank you Dovi for the
comcast channel Spotsylvania ads you're running for Rikki's!!!! We need
all the support we can get!

We're Half Way to our Double It Challenge !!!
The challenge runs thru the 24th so we still have time to win. We're
only about half way there - so please - be my hero and help me win!!!

Cindy writes in: Good morning Vincent! Walker wanted to thank you for
mentioning his good Alumni Spokesdog work at the Richmond Vegetarian
Festival yesterday. He wants to add another 2 names to the list of
helpful volunteers who worked there!!! Laurie Karnay - who is always so
nice to me and pets me and hugs me, and another woman who lives in
Richmond and brings donations to Rikki's a few times a year. We ginned
up a lot of interest for the August Open House, July tours, and Katarina
got a list of volunteer signups!!!!

Walker was especially moved by one visitor that came yesterday. Yes,
many people stopped by to say they are "Facebook friends with Vincent".
Hm! But one girl came by and remembered me from a tour 1 or 2 years ago
from a girls school in Richmond (Grovewood? Again my dog brain doesn't
remember). The girl was all grown up so I didn't recognize her at first,
but she hugged me and told me she remembered that my story made her cry.
I remembered her too, because she was the one with grit and
determination in her eyes about wanting to stop animal abuse. She said
then that she wanted to become an Animal Cop. And I believed her! She
was fearless about going into Duke's dog run and Momma and Sonny's
(mosty people hesitate a little because they don't know if the dogs are
really friendly) She remembers Duke really well too. Well, that young
lady is now in community college and working to fulfill her dream - of
being an animal cop or animal rescuer in some capacity. She said she
wants to come volunteer and see me and Duke -- so she took my mom's cell
phone number down. It is so nice to hear how my story can motivate
people to action, even in some little way! Mom says that is why I
survived the woods after being shot -- to help change the world by
letting people see the results of animal abuse. And more importantly, to
show people that there really are second chances and happy endings!!
Rikki's has over 1200 happy endings!!! --- Love, Walker

I love Donna's outlook: When my mom was in a "home" We made sure it was
right by the house, then we could see her everyday. Since she was
senile, and would ask why we were there and we'd always say it was her
birthday, or Christmas, or St. Paddy's. It was fun to see her eyes light
up!!! Of course, we were only bringing clean socks and underwear....but
she thought they were presents!

I think of senility as a chance to be creative! Everyday is a new
beginning and we can make it be exactly what we want. She wouldn't
remember my name, or who I was, so I'd make up a name and a character.
We had lots of good laughs.

I'm a lion today !!!!

Even with Toddlers, It's the Thought that Counts - A reassuring new
study finds that even in toddlers, intentions matter more than actions.

You probably get bummed if you promise something but can't come through
with it. While your child might be a little disappointed, a new study
says that even toddlers are able to recognize good intentions in others,
and will help people who've tried to help them, even if the attempt failed.

Series of experiments, 16 toddlers, 2 actresses. One actresses would
deliberately refuse to give a child a toy. The other actress would
attempt to pass the toy, but accidentally push it out of reach.

When the tables were turned and the actresses asked for the children's
help, 75 percent of them assisted the one who had tried to pass over a
toy, even though she'd been unsuccessful. None of them helped the other
actress. So even though the first actress hadn't actually helped them,
they'd realized that she was trying to do something kind, and returned
the favor anyway. The study seems to illustrate that intentions are more
powerful than actions, even for young children.

Statistics show that close to 80% of people who watch the Super Bowl on
television, only do so to view the commercials. ----- Is that really
possible?

Looks good about now - doesn't it?

Ashley has joined the crew this morning, paws crossed that this is a
good match.

Walker says: They crossed a Bloodhound and a Labrador. The new breed is
a Blabador, a dog that barks incessantly. (Tippy!)

Girl raises thousands for Gulf birds - 'It's really crazy how many
people want my drawings'
Olivia Bouler doesn't have time for anything else these days except to
draw and paint. But that's OK for the artistic fifth-grader, because
everything she does is for the birds. The Islip, N.Y., girl, who turns
11 on Friday, has raised an estimated $80,000 by sending her sketches
and paintings of birds to people who donate to organizations helping
with relief efforts in the Gulf of Mexico spill disaster. "I do some in
the mornings and some in the afternoons, and weekends are really the
time for me get cracking at them," Olivia told msnbc.com on Thursday in
a telephone interview as she and her parents were headed to the Gulf for
a visit.
