at Rikki's Refuge
Winter
Wonder Land this morning ......

There
is so much beauty at Rikki's. In our
animals, in our land, in our seasons, in our sunrises, in our sunsets; I want
to share all of it with you so you know what's it's really like to spend your
life in our little part of paradise.
The ice sure can be beautiful coating everything ..... but so scary destructive too .... you don't realize the weight of it till you see it take down trees, roofs, buildings ..... thankfully we escaped any ill will of the ice this time !!!
No
matter the weather ... rain or shine ... ice or heat .... the hoomans have a schedule to stick to to
keep us all fed and happy .... no
excuses ..... and don't even think
about walking gingerly or slowly when it's time to open up the breakfast buffet
!!!!
The big guys and gals were thankful for the sunshine this morning, and for the grass and melting ice that has rejuvenated the fields .... nummy nummy fresh growing grass .... mmmm mmmm good !!!!
Sometimes
it's hard to remember that the weather that may feel so miserable at the time
.... is so necessary for others.
Though the sun is up bright ... it's like it's raining out there with all the ice melting off the trees and everything. And it's supposed to get up to 39, today ... the LAST day of winter .... I said so and so it shall be ..... looks like a warming trend is here now !!! YIPPIE !!!!

Lots
of rain coming in the next couple weeks ..... but that's what it does in spring
.... so starting tomorrow it be spring!!!
Milo hasn't decided to peek out at the world yet to see what weather he'll get.
Clarence
is doing an amazing job
of training the critters to help with the chores. Top Cat has learned to help scrub out water bowls!

Rikki's gets to watch the changing sky .... see the brilliant stars at night

Rikki's.
Obie takes a break in his hard working day to spend some time in the sun getting cuddles which Catina breaks for a quick lunch ...... I get he got half her nums too !!!!

Many
animals love sitting on objects that match their color.
Peacocks are no exception, they especially love blue and green vehicles !!!!
Try this experiment. Toss a few blankets and beds and pillows about that match your animals. Orange ones, brown ones, black ones .... or green ones if you have a peacock .... ohhh or an iguana, I haven't tried it on reptiles !!! See who migrates to which colors !!! Report back in .... I'd like to hear what YOUR critters think.

Kitty has learned an evil new trick
He can be a bit of a bully at times .... and back somebody else into a corner yelling and screaming .... this time he backed them into the rain box and then slammed the door shut !!!!! I don't know if it was accidental ... or if he's practiced but not gotten it latched before .... or if he realizes what he just did and will keep doing it !!

Have you figured out she's one of Clarence's favorites !!!! And she feels the same way about him. Each of our animals bonds to their favorite caretaker and will often follow them around or help them with the daily chores. A real bond of trust and love grown between the animals and their special hoomans.
Coming to work at Rikki's isn't like going to work ..... it's more like coming home to your great big huge hairy family where you are so loved and appreciated !!!!
Look close ... see the hooman in the orange sweatshirt and winter overalls? It doesn't matter if the sun is setting .... if the animals still need you .... you're still there. One thing is the most important to everyone working at Rikki's Refuge .... seeing that their animals are safe and sound and protected and comfortable. Everything else takes a back seat in life.
