at Rikki's Refuge

Today
is dedicated to Lloyd Dolan and Obie Won Caninobie
Some
days we have to work real hard to remember the sun will set tonight, and it
will rise again tomorrow and we'll carry on what we do at Rikki's Refuge each
and every day to help and to save all the lives we can ...... no matter what.
We've
got two terrible terrible sadz today.

Our
beloved Spokes Dog Obie has left us suddenly and totally unexpectedly for the
Rainbow Bridge ..... much much much too soon ....
I
guess we never know how long any of us will be allowed the privilege of time on
planet earth ..... we just think sometimes we know what should be right .....
and other times we are shocked with the universes' plans when someone young and
seemingly healthy leaves us suddenly.
I
loved my Obie very very much.
I
know ... all the Cat vs Dog stuff .... but we really really were good friends.
Obie was a wonderful dog and I'm so so so sad he didn't get to spend many many
many more years here with us.
May
I ask for your prayers for a safe landing at the Rainbow Bridge where he'll be
met by so many who shared a part of their lives with us here at Rikki's Refuge?
Donations
made in Obie's memory will be use for repairs to the Doggy Downs buildings.
Be
sure to mention Obie in the comment.
After
we laid our beloved Obie to rest at our Rainbow Bridge cemetery it was hard to
remind ourselves that the sun still shone, and the day was still ahead of us,
and all the other critters needed us.
We could keep wiping tears away throughout the day. We couldn't neglect the others. No matter what, no matter how bad the day
can possibly be, we can't stop, each and every day, no matter what, no matter
the sadness, no matter the disaster, no matter miserable weather, no matter
nothin, no matter everything ..... the show must go on ... 24/7 .... there are
no excuses ...... there are living
breathing animals who count on us. One
is gone .... the others need us ....
they need us today as much as they need us each and every day.
And
so our regular daily routine began ....

A
dear friend to every cat on the planet and Rikki's Refuge volunteer since our
beginning in the late 90's, Lloyd Dolan had joined so many friends at the
Rainbow Bridge this morning too.
Lloyd
was, without a doubt, one of the kindest and most gentle human beings this
planet has ever seen.
Lloyd
was also an important volunteer to Siamese Cat Rescue, a Pro Wrestling Referee,
and a microbrewery aficionado.
Lloyd
is survived by his two calico kitties, Bridgette and Elsinor,

who
have been living at Rikki's adoption room at our thrift store Re-Tail during
his hospitalization. Lloyd loved me and we did lots of snuggles when he visited
or we went to events together. Opie, Official spokes kitty for Rikki's

Lloyd
always loved joining in fun times at Rikki's.
He also worked really hard as a volunteer. He helped to build many of our early housing projects, starting
with Cat House #1 in the winter of 1998/99.
He was strong, and often the only man helping out on projects, and he'd pick
up the heavy materials and tote them for mom and the crew.

Lloyd
also was such a gentle, kind and caring soul.
A wonderful cat was left behind on the property when Rikki's took
over. His name was Slinky and he was a
cool dude. Early in '99 it was
discovered Slinky's wife had also left behind.
We first met Short Tail Mom on morning when she showed up at the door
and asked to come in. She was seriously
distended with kittens on the way. She
picked a blanket in the corner and settled down. By evening she'd given birth.
Lloyd was so excited. He loved cats ... any and all cats. When he saw this new family he lay down on the floor and lifted the kittens into his outstretched hands. With the most amazing smile of wonder and joy, he said, "I've never held life this young!" He immediately picked out the two he would adopt when they were older.

Opossums
have feelings, too. Do your research or
you just might embarrass yourself.

Please
be nice to everyone.
I've
heard some people say they don't like opossums cus they're
"ugly". I happen to think
they're pretty darn cute ...... But
really, is "ugly" any kind of reason to be mean or to hate or to fear
? No, it's not. There's probably somebody out there who
thinks you're "ugly" just by the nature of your species ..... and YOU
wouldn't like that, would you?
