Randy writes in: I heard a sermon years ago where the priest encouraged us to do one quiet, thankless act a day - one you didn’t tell anyone about, one you didn’t overly celebrate - just an act you performed quietly, humbly.

This isn’t as easy as one would think. Most of us want notice for the ways in which we contribute. We want to pat ourselves on the back for our act. None of this is bad per se, but there is a higher spiritual place one can attain by keeping the act to ourselves and being quiet, even to ourselves, about it.

What kind of acts? It could be something as seemingly small as a smile to someone who needs it, cleaning up a park or beach nearby, petting a lonely dog, playing with a child, calling a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while. Or perhaps its time to look into some volunteer services in your area. (Many of us want to volunteer but something always gets in the way, doesn’t it?)

It’s been much cooler today than the last few days and sounds like it’s gonna get down right chilly tonight !!!! That’s gonna feel good huh??? Have a fabulous day!!!

Love,
Vincent

A Concert just for Dogs…how Fun!
Leave it to Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson to think out of the box with this one! Former Velvet Underground frontman, Lou Reed, and his wife, performance artist Laurie Anderson, are curating a music and arts festival called Vivid Live at Australia’s Sydney Opera House this month—and one of their events promises to be a barking good time.

On June 5th at 10 AM, four-legged visitors will be welcomed to the Opera House Forecourt (along with their human companions) for the first event of its kind in the world: a concert only for dogs. Laurie Anderson has created a performance piece consisting of tones so high that we humans won’t be able to hear them, but our canine friends are sure to enjoy the sound. “Our canine friends will be treated to a glorious cacophony of sound, while all we will hear is the lapping of the water on the harbor,” says the Vivid Live website.

Actually, we’ve got a feeling that the human audience members may well be treated to the sound of a few hundred dogs barking in unison—but maybe that’s just part of the music, too.

Justin, a Special Young Man
Last summer Justin did some volunteer work, then went away to his first year of college. He stopped in occasionally during breaks. He came back two weeks ago and having grown taller and cut his hair we didn’t immediately recognize him and asked him if he was here for a job interview. He told her who he was and said he was ready to get to work and would be available until returning to college in August.

Lena was thrilled. Even though it was only temporary help, he was trained, nice and a good worker. And he went to work on a 5 day a week schedule. He’s always here before the shift starts at 8 am and he works straight thru till 5 pm. When he filled out tax paper work he was a bit surprised and said oh I need to do this? I’ve never had to do it before. We just figured it was his first paying job and .....

Well yesterday he left without coming to the office for his first paycheck. This morning Lena gave it to him and he said, “What’s this for?” He’s very happily surprised that he’s been hired but he thought he was volunteering !!! My first thought was, “Oh my gosh we could have saved that money!! But we need the help and the reliable help of a staffer. And his performance is outstanding. And you know what? I bet his paychecks will go to a very good use, something that will make a difference in the world!!!

Love,
Vincent

Jane shares a funny!!
One morning, the husband returns the boat to their lakeside
cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, puts her feet up,
and begins to read her book. The peace and solitude are magnificent.

Along comes a Fish and Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, ' Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?'

'Reading a book,' she replies, (thinking, 'Isn't that obvious?')

'You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her.

'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading.'

'Yes, but I see you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up.'

'If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault,' says the
woman.

'But I haven't even touched you,' says the Game Warden.

'That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.'

'Have a nice day ma'am,' and he left.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

Candis wrote a poem for me!!!
Vincent is a most special cat
See he wears a nice straw hat
If ever a cat won our hearts
It was Vincent from the very start
We will travel to see him one day
Until then, we love him in every way.

American boy, 13, breaks Everest record
A 13-year-old American became the youngest climber to ever summit Mount Everest on Saturday. Jordan Romero's journey was tracked through GPS coordinates on his blog, logging his team's ascent up Everest, which is 29,028 feet (8,847 meters) above sea level.

"Their dreams have now come true," a statement on Jordan's blog said. "Everyone sounded unbelievably happy." Before Saturday, the youngest climber to scale Everest was 16-year-old Temba Tsheri of Nepal.

Before starting out, Romero, of Big Bear, California, said he wanted to climb Everest to inspire more young people to get outdoors. "Obese children are the future of America, the way things are going," he said on April 9 in Kathmandu. "I am hoping to change that by doing what I do: climbing and motivational speaking." With a smile, he added: "I am doing this a little for myself, too, to do something big."

Tabby Adopts Abandoned Baby Bobcats
A gray tabby named Zoe in South Carolina is now nursing three abandoned baby bobcats -- felines that will soon dwarf their adoptive mother and siblings. In about five weeks the bobcats will be moved to a specially built habitat until they can be released back into the wild.

Switzerland Hires “Road Angel” to Prevent Speeding Accidents

In Fribourg, Switzerland, drivers going too fast will get a warning from a real-life angel, thanks to a new campaign.

There are few drivers who can honestly say they’ve never driven above the speed limit. Maybe you’re late for work, or rushing to pick your daughter up from day care, or you’re just distracted. But when you go too fast, accidents are far more likely to happen—and Switzerland’s come up with a novel campaign to remind speeders of the dangers of driving too fast.

In the Swiss state of Fribourg, drivers going above the limit may receive a warning from a real-life angel: a man dressed in white, complete with a set of wings, who waves at drivers who are going too fast. Drivers will likely recognize him as a real-life counterpart to an angel in a safe-driving TV commercial, who is hit by a car pulling out of a garage too quickly. The angel has been hired by the state police department to work 20 hours a week until at least October.

True, the police department could focus their resources on pulling over speeding drivers, but they believe the angel creates a greater impact that they can make on their own. “To have a physical presence like that makes the message more visible, and it’s out of the ordinary,” police spokesman Benoît Dumas told AOL News.

It’s too early to tell if the angel is actually preventing accidents on the dangerous mountain roads, but he’s definitely got people talking. And if the plan goes well, there’s no telling how long the Road Angel may keep guard on Fribourg’s roads.

“After all, you know, angels are eternal,” said Dumas.
