My Favorite Quote, Today
Happiness is appreciating what you have

No need sitting around complaining about the leg you lost.  Every time somebody looks at me and says, “Oh poor Vincent, you lost a leg.”  I look at them and say, “hee hee hee I got one more than you do!!!!!”  And that’s cuz it’s only da hoomans who ever say stuff like that.  Us animals, we take it like it is, and we’re happy.  We don’t bemoan what was, what could have been, what.  We rush out to greet each day for what wonders it brings!!!

Join us animals at Rikki’s the weekend BE HAPPY and HAVE FUN!!!!

Refuge News
Ferry God Mother Candy made a trip from DC to bring Gwen who’d been a stray and is feluk positive and 3 year old Jessie James who tested positive for FIV, to live at Rikki’s.  They’re comfortably resting in quarantine waiting the prescribed time to join their groups.

Barbara writes in: Trapped 10  cats so far tonight...1 new female who just showed up today for the first time at this feral colony, plus 9 from the original colony...1 female left to completely speuter that colony...hope she jumps in the trap tonight... still have all day tomorrow...that would be 11 cats...we only have reservations for 5, but historically the clinic has had room for extras ...  worse case we hold the remaining cats until the next clinic or use the certificates...(this is the colony that Pegasus came from...) :-)

This leaves about 14 kittens at the 2nd site...will go for those at the Feb 24th clinic...then the next colony for March...  and then a few cats at several other locations, and I will have met my goal of shutting down (all fixed with caretakers assigned) these stops that have been allowed to continue to breed for years...whew...does this mean I will finally be able to retire??? ha!  barb  :-)

Pegasus update - doing great, gaining weight, still skinny but not like he was.  Still doing snake posturing and threatening but will let mom pat him when he’s eating.  Not ready to go home to his feral colony yet.  Nest to gain a lot more weight to be ok in the cold.  He was just skeletal when he came.

Patches update - doing fine in general population.  Has lots of friends in the 9th Life Center.  Hasn’t warmed up to hoomans yet.  Seems to have quite a bit of sight.  Though certainly not purrfect.  Hopefully it’s continuing to improve daily.

Rene is on her way over today with more kitty nesting boxes!!!  They’re the best!!!  Cozy and warm.

Come out and help tomorrow.  Bring 4x4 x 12 foot PT lumber and 2x4 14 or 16 foot PT.  Bring your post hole digger too.  The center line in cats was constructed years after the fencing so the vertical supports don’t match up.  Can’t put in a proper weight bearing rafter system like that.  So we’re having to add posts to the center line where needed.  Bummer, lots of hard work, digging and pounding.  But kitties need it sturdy to protect them from snow.

Meet Timmy - the Feral
who Tried to Turn Rabbit Rotunda
into a Cafeteria

This is Timmy.  You read about him last year when mom found a cat slinking around on top of Rabbit Rotunda looking at all those delicate morsels: rabbits, guinea pigs, pigeons; and trying to find a way in.  It took about forever for Timmy to walk into a trap.  And he got netured at our Speuter Clinic at Culpeper Hospital in December.  He’s turned into a love bug.  Most of the time.
